Whitbread Ward is situated on the ground floor of the main ward block. Its entrance is opposite the entrance to Cygnet Wing.
The surgical assessment unit is a 12-bedded unit compromising of two bays, one for male patients, one female patients and two side rooms. The SAU looks after patients with general surgical, vascular and urology symptoms. It is open 24 hours per day every day of the year.
The surgical assessment unit admits emergency surgical patients to the hospital who have been referred via A&E or their GP. When patients arrive on the SAU they will be evaluated by skilled staff and, following assessment, will either be able to be discharged home or will be transferred to the main hospital.
