Description of the Ward

Meadowbank Ward is Bedford Hospital’s Neonatal Unit, situated in the Trust’s dedicated Women and Children’s Department in the Cygnet Wing. The Neonatal Unit employs specialist Neonatal Nurses and Family Care Assistants to care for premature and unwell new-born babies and their families.

Routine of What Happens on the Ward
The Trust’s Neonatal Unit cares for sick term and premature babies. Each day there is a consultant led ward round. Parents are welcome on this round but ask they are only present when their baby is being discussed.

Visiting Times

Parents and grandparents are welcome on the unit at any time. Other visitors can visit between 2.30pm-4.30pm and 6.30pm-8.30pm. Visitors need to be accompanied by one of the baby’s parents. Children under 16 other than siblings are not permitted onto the unit.

Where to Find Us

The Meadow Bank (Neo-natal) Ward can be found on the second floor of the Cygnet Wing Women and Children’s Unit block and is serviced by Reception G.

Please see it on the map below with the reference number 32.

Special Information

For the benefit of the babies, we have a quiet time between 12.30pm-1.30pm where we try to minimise any disturbances on the ward creating a peaceful atmosphere for both parents and babies.
To ensure the safety and security of the babies all visitors to the Neonatal Unit must ‘buzz in’ at the front door to gain access.

There is a sitting room on the Unit where parents can make tea and coffee and relax whilst their baby is resting. We also have two parent overnight stay rooms where parents are able to stay in the room with their baby prior to discharge.

Privacy and Dignity
